Myott, Son & Co. produced the "Dudley" pattern for only a short window — the backstamp dates this plate to 1894–1902.
A semi-porcelain display plate from Stoke-on-Trent, the Dudley pattern features large polychrome peonies in amber-orange and mauve-purple, printed and hand-tinted on an ivory ground with a dark mottled green border. The scalloped rim carries a trace of gilt. Crazing across the body is age-appropriate for earthenware of this period, not a defect.
Note: photos show two plates — this listing is for one plate only. The pattern number 973 is hand-written on the reverse alongside the maker's mark.
Works well propped on a plate stand on a shelf or mantelpiece where the colour reads well from a distance. The dark green border and earthy palette sit naturally alongside botanical prints, Arts and Crafts textiles, or darker wood furniture. The 23 cm diameter is a good single-shelf size — present without dominating.
