Metal mesh bags this small and this fine are hard to find in any condition.

A small antique coin bag or evening purse, made from rows of fine interlocking metal links that drape and move like fabric. The frame is cast metal with repousse scrollwork decoration, and the kiss-lock clasp is set with two deep-blue faceted glass stone knobs. A fine chain handle allows it to be carried on the wrist or dropped into a pocket. Cream fabric lining inside.

The construction — fine ring-link mesh body, ornate repousse frame, chain handle — dates this to the Edwardian period or early 1900s, a style of bag made across Europe in silver-tone and gold-tone metal for the accessories market.

Small enough to use as an evening bag for essentials only, or displayed as a decorative object on a dressing table or in a cabinet. Works with Victorian or Edwardian costume, or as a collector's piece alongside antique accessories.
