Bronze rearing horses on marble bases were a staple of European decorative casting — this one is a well-proportioned example.
A cast bronze figurine of a rearing horse, mounted on a rectangular verde marble plinth. The bronze has the warm gold tone of polished casting, with natural green patina visible in the recessed areas of the mane and legs — consistent with genuine bronze. The marble base is dark green with white and grey veining throughout.
The detail in the mane and muscle definition is finely cast. The felt pad on the base underside is worn at the edges, which is typical of a piece that has sat on a shelf or mantelpiece for some years.
At approximately 20 cm long and close to 20 cm tall, it has enough presence to anchor a mantelpiece or bookshelf without overwhelming the space. It works well alongside other metal or stone objects — a desk piece that reads as deliberate rather than decorative clutter. Equally suited to a living room shelf or a study.
