Vintage 1970s Black Floral Tapestry Clutch Bag Wood-Effect Frame Roses Purse

Roses and pansy-like flowers woven in red, orange, yellow, blue and lilac on a black ground give this frame clutch a dense, painterly surface.

A 1970s frame clutch with a woven tapestry body, the flowers worked in a full range of garden colours with the black ground showing between them. The rigid frame has a brown wood-grain finish and a dark inner rim, with dark metal clasp parts at the side.

The weave keeps the floral pattern flat and even across the whole face, so the bag reads as a single patterned panel rather than a printed design.

At 13 × 18 cm it is a hand-carried size, large enough for a phone and cards. The black ground lets the colours hold in low light, so it works in the evening as well as by day. Against a plain dark coat or a knit in one colour, it becomes the only pattern in the outfit.
