Ship's wheel tie clips from this period were a straightforward signal — nautical without being costume, worn by men who knew what they liked.
A gold-tone tie bar with a circular enamel medallion at the centre: a ship's wheel in gold against a deep navy enamel background with a red hub detail. The bar itself is slim and polished, the clip mechanism on the back is the ribbed spring type standard to the period.
The wheel motif is clean and legible at scale — it reads from across a room without being oversized. These were made for slim to mid-width ties of the 1970s and hold well on modern narrow ties too.
Sits flat against the tie fabric. The ribbed spring clip gives a secure grip without leaving marks. Works with a plain knit or a stripe — the motif does the work without competing.
