Byzantine cross pendants with a carved stone centre are uncommon — most from this period have plain settings.
A silver-tone cross pendant in the Byzantine style, with embossed foliate decoration across all four arms and a bezel-set dark green intaglio stone at the centre. The carved stone appears to show a cross motif, making the piece doubly symbolic. The back has a hammered cast texture and a maker's stamp in a rectangular cartouche.
No chain is included. The bail is integrated into the left arm of the cross, so the pendant hangs at a slight diagonal — a detail of the design rather than a flaw.
Layers well on a fine silver or oxidised chain, or can be worn alone on a cord. The scale sits well at the collarbone and works for day wear as easily as for occasions where a religious motif is intentional.
