Cascading five-petal flowers like these were a signature look in 1970s costume jewellery, when plastic took the place of enamel for cost and colour.

A 1970s costume necklace built from ivory-tone plastic flowers, each five-petal bloom flecked with fine glitter and set with a clear rhinestone center. The flowers link into an open, cascading cluster that falls in tiers from a delicate silver-tone chain.

One flower breaks from the ivory palette in a soft chartreuse yellow — a small design detail rather than a flaw, and typical of the colour variation these mass-produced florals show today. The chain fastens with a lobster clasp and an 8 cm extender, for a total length of 52 cm.

The cluster sits at the collarbone and covers a good amount of chest without weighing down the neck — the plastic keeps it lighter than the visual scale suggests. Wear it over a plain neckline or open collar where the flowers have room to show, and let the necklace carry the outfit on its own.
