Radnor made this type of miniature posy set for the British gift market — small, cheerful, and far better painted than most of what came from the period.
A set of three pieces in pale celadon bone china: a horseshoe-shaped holder carrying four hand-modelled roses, an anemone, and a pansy; a small square posy pot with a blue cornflower arrangement; and a miniature wheelbarrow loaded with a pink and yellow rose. All three pieces carry the "Radnor Bone China England" stamp on the base. The flowers are applied individually, each petal formed by hand before firing.
Radnor China operated in Fenton, Staffordshire. Their floral posy holders were a staple of the mid-20th century British gift trade, sold in department stores and gift shops across the country.
The three pieces sit well as a vignette on a dressing table, narrow shelf, or windowsill. The wheelbarrow fits neatly inside the curve of the horseshoe; the small posy pot anchors the centre. They catch afternoon light well — the painted petals have a slight translucency typical of thin bone china.
