The oval cabochon form in silver-tone is one of those designs that works across decades.
A vintage silver-tone oval brooch set with a large blue cabochon — a natural stone with visible veining in the turquoise-blue range. The embossed border follows the oval outline with small raised detail work around the edge.
The piece belongs to the genre of mid-to-late twentieth century brooches where natural stones were set in silver-tone frames to give a more substantial, less overtly costume look.
At 3 × 2 cm it sits cleanly on a collar, lapel, or the front of a knit. The blue reads cooler against silver than it would in a gold setting — works well with navy, grey, and white, and holds its own as a single statement piece rather than layered.
