Tapestry frame bags with the detachable strap still present are less common than the handle-only versions.
A 1970s frame-top handbag in woven tapestry, its kilim-style geometric pattern worked in orange, cream, pale blue, grey and mustard. The brass-tone frame has domed rivets and a push-slide clasp at the front.
A short tan top handle fixes to the frame with swivel clips. A separate tan strap with a brass-tone swivel clasp clips on for shoulder carry. The lining is gold slubbed fabric, riveted to the frame, and a sewn-in St Michael label reads Made in the U.K.
At 27 × 31 cm the bag holds a purse, keys and a paperback, and the strap frees the hands. The orange and cream weave suits a plain navy coat, denim or a dark knit, where the pattern becomes the single point of colour. Daylight brings out the pale blue in the weave.
